SEE WHAT MY FORMER STUDENTS ARE DOING NOW...
Learn the basics of portraiture, beginning with self portraits from observation.
My novel technique to achieving a likeness begins by quickly transferring the minimal essence of the image of the subject (top of head to top of shoulders), from the inside-out, rather than the conventional outside-in approach.
Looking for shadows (shapes) that define the form of the head, this forces one to draw what is seen, rather than what is known.
Vertical and horizontal alignment checks are then made and the quick image is then be adjusted for accuracy.
The image may then be rendered in a variety of ways, depending on intent.
